Why are you so surprised? I said it would! But some people don't subscribe
to newsgroups and wouldn't any problem. To exclude news messages from that,
or any, custom view, make sure that the criteria popup says
< if ALL criteria are met>
and add:
<Specific header> <Newsgroups> <Does not exist>
[or , in Entourage X only, you could do the somewhat simpler]
<News Account> <Is not> <Microsoft News Server>
<News Account> <Is not> <Your ISP's News Server>
<News Account> <Is not> <Any Other News Server>
to exclude all news accounts (exclude each one you have). To exclude junk
mail, add
<Is not > <Junk mail>
etc.

You probably forgot to switch the popup from <ANY criteria> to <All
criteria>, You have to remember to do that.

Sorry , I don't follow. You can keep different IMAP folders too, you know.
Or if you have a rule that "moves' (actually copies) IMAP messages to LOCAL
folders (?) and then marks them for deletion in the IMAP INBOX, make
yourself a Deleted Mail folder on your IMAP server if you don't have one,
change your IMAP account on the Advanced page to store Deleted messages
there instead of marking for deletion, change your IMAP rule to COPY
messages to the local folder, then DELETE message. then add a criterion to
your Custom view that messages
<Folder> <Is not> <IMAP Deleted mail>
Now you'll only see the local copies. (As I said, the simpler way might be
to make IMAP folders and move messages there, but perhaps you need to
conserve server space.)
