Agreed, and 'change' usually ends up meaning 'more work' as you learn a
new method.

If you think of and use custom views as you now think of folders, and
then use your previous mail tracking method you might find this change
to be not so drastic.  Its net result is you'll use fewer rules and
folders, and you will be less likely to lose track of where a barely
remembered email ended up being stored, if at all. 

I want to reiterate that custom views are a big advance in mail handling
and Entourage was reengineered to provide this kind of speedy search,
hopefully instant, to the point where you can forget that it just
performed a search of your entire mail database because it seems like
the mail was there waiting for you, already sorted when you clicked on
the view.
