Dave, I agree with you that Custom Views are GREAT. I use them frequently.
But there are lots of things that either can't be done with custom views, or
would simply take too much time to "program" (so to speak) to make them
worth it. I (still <grin>) have 12 top-level folders and around 70
sub-folders, mainly because I got tired of trying to think of every possible
iteration of conditions that might occur, and dealing with situations where
I had multiple relationships with a single email address (personal, work,
etc.) and needed to file mail accordingly. My "finds" are easier and quicker
this way, and IMO folders are more intuitive as a user interface than custom
views.

To be clear, I agree with you that custom views are pretty revolutionary.
For certain things I really love them! I'm just saying that they don't
fulfill everyone's needs. I personally use both custom views and lots of
folders, and am quite happy on the whole ;)

As a side note, (with background first) I've mentioned several times since
the first version of Entourage was released that I *really* miss the
Emailer-style "folder" menu in every window. Personally, having that menu
would be a godsend for me, for two reasons: 1) quick filing to
less-frequently-used folders without having to bring up a dialog, find the
folder, then hit "OK," which is RSI-inducing <grin> and 2) it would let the
user see what folder the current message is filed in (I don't use message
preview, and there is no "current folder" indicator in message windows) --
currently I have to close the window to see what folder it's in. The
responses I've gotten have always been "use an AppleScript," which really
doesn't provide anything near the same functionality. I've always been
surprised that this apparently minor change didn't seem like a priority, but
after reading your message, it hit me. Based on the messages I've seen from
the Entourage team, it appears that you all use a relatively small number of
folders and use tons of custom views; if that's the case, the true "folder
menu" wouldn't seem to be a priority in your everyday use. Am I right about
this? If so, perhaps my message will at least give you a nudge to consider
the issue again ;) I would really, really, really like a full (listing all)
folder menu in both the browser and each message window.

Sorry for the long message; thanks for listening. (I mean that, too.)
