Sorry for the long quote, but I believe it all is important for someone
following up on the thread.

Well, our experiences are almost identical specifically with respect to
sysadmins recommend against Erage (X or 9). I use the same setting as you
described above with the difference that I have to enable SSL since there is
only encrypted access permitted. I have a lot of error messages when I
access my mail on the current (old) imap mail server which will be expired
soon but at least I get my mail. I was already testing the new server which
will be standard in a matter of weeks and as it appears I will have to
switch to Apple's Mail if I still want to get my email. (Well, I guess there
is still pine and mutt).

Where are the experts?
