Entourage does seem to have some protocol problems with both Exchange and
the UW-IMAP server. I've reported them to Microsoft. Mail seems to have some
capacity problems (e.g., mailboxes larger than 32M).

To wrap it up. I activated Mail after 2 years+ dormancy and it works very fast and so far reliably and I have yet to get ANY error message from any of my IMAP accounts - in short that is a real pleasure.
I'll have to get used to maneuver between ical, mail, sticky notes and a news reader - which was so nicely bundled in ErageX.
The import of Calendar events and the mailboxes was painless, and I also used (and fully registered) Paul Berkowitz's Entourage - Address-book Synchronizer - which is a real pleasure to work with (Thanks Paul I think I got my money's worth 3 times over).
Syncing via iSync to my T68i work like a charm and all I had to to eventually was setting up the accounts and rules. The rules criteria are not automatically pre-populated by the values of the selected message and there is no MailingListManager but I can live with that (a simple rule will accomplish the same for my purposes).
