If you don't need shutter speeds faster then 1/60
(maybe this number is different on different bodies)
you can also use P mode. Otherwise you will have to
use M mode.
Before you switch system try to get some experience
with the M mode. If you make sure that your subject is
within the flash range you will get good results
without any big hassle. Ideally you place your subject
in the middle of the flash range so a relatively small
change in subject distance does not require new
settings. It is easier then it sounds like.
