There is one idea I have. Not sure if it will work.
You could split the cable. In one branch you put an
RC. Instead of a fixed resistance use a variable one.
Then shoot some pictures of 'high-resolution'
stopwatch with 1/1000 sec (not sure if the last digit
will just be blurry due to a low response of the LCD).
Take not of the position of the resistance. Then when
you compare the images you can approx figure out what
settings you need.
Depending on how the camera is actually triggered it
might work or not.
