While I'm pretty sure the 7 compares favorably with a much older

more". ;-) I thought about replacing my old Elan with a 7, but gave
it up after checking the price for the 7. Not enough (for me)
advantages to justify spending that much money on my 2nd backup body.

Thomas,

It is MY opinion! I too have an Elan IIe but also the EOS3.
If I were upgrading from a Rebel I would seriously spend the extra
cash. A used Elan (original) is about $225 used. A NEW Elan 7 is about
$450. You get a warranty with the new one in case it breaks which could
save you $200 right there. You also get, much faster AF, better metering,
ECF, E-TTL compatibility, and other features that are easily worth the
price (IMO). If one is upgrading, they want to go forward
not backward. I mean, would you sell your Elan II and buy an Original Elan?
I think not.
