Well, I believe it is enough reason for you. Still, I'm not a believer
when it comes to E-TTL. While it is likely to make significantly less
flash exposure errors than plain TTL, it is still not comparable to
using an external flash meter. Also, getting the flash exposure right
may be easier than with plain TTL or even manual flash, but still can't
beat the reliability of a TTL or manual flash done by an experienced
photographer who knows his tools. I would rate this advantage to be
about the same or lower level as the difference in ambient spot metering.

Do you mean the failure of the TTL sensor in the original Elan at high
ISO settings? If so, I don't know of a workaround. Anyway, mine seems
to do well at least at ISO 3200, while it fails at the two highest
ISO settings (out of memory, tried it ~6 years ago).
