Also, don't forget that whatever you purchase will be "old news" and
probably
obsolete within a couple of years or less. This is a hidden cost. My photo
quality inkjet was replaced by a new and improved model within a month of
its
purchase. It has basically no resale value, and I can't afford to throw $500
into the trash dumpster.
Hang on a minute. Just because Canon will produce a better more advanced
digital camera does not mean that the D30 will suddenly become obsolete, it
will continue to be able to produce excellent photographs for years to come.
Developement of digital cameras is beginning to slow down now that it has
reached a stage where very high quality prints are achievable at least up to
A4 size. There is little point in constantly increasing the number of pixels
beyond a certain point. All you are doing is creating vast and unwieldly
files requiring huge amounts of ram to manipulate not to mention increased
write times. I recently read some advertising blurb for the Kodak DCS
cameras, in which Kodak cautioned against using the 6mp version for any
action photography, advising instead the use of the 2mp version for this.
Kodak is advising its professional clientele that 6mp is really mainly for
studio work. The quality I get from my D30 is superb. No doubt Canon will
improve the workings of the camera (although criticism of the D30's AF and
flash capabilities are seriously exagerated IMHO) but to expect huge
increases in resolution in a camera of this price is unlikely in the
immediate future
kind regards
