Well, it all depends.  The 10d is certainly capable of
far better quality.  But for web shots, or small
snapshot type prints (parties and that sort of thing),
the G3 actually holds its own.

a 17 inch monitor running 1024x768, I'm not sure most
people could tell the difference.


Absolutely agreed. The G3 image quality is really not all that bad at ISO 50. Using RAW mode and with a little care during processing, you can get quite amazing pictures out of this little box ;-) The big difference is in speed and handling. Also in noise of course, so you have to be careful when sharpening the G3 images.
