There's another way to do this without going to Lab color. Quoted from
this page:

"A way to do this method without changing to Lab Color is to perform
sharpening as you usually would (Unsharp Mask), then choose Fade
Unsharp Mask from the Edit menu. In the dialog that appears, change
the Mode from Normal to Luminosity and click Okay."

I know, I know, it's kind of part of a Nikon website.
