Yes, that is correct, AFAIK. That is why it is
important to work out a "naming convention" beforehand
and stick with it. In my case it is coincidental that
the three characters match.

Also, 
1. In case of long file names, the "ren" command will
also work fine. It will not however, increase the
length of the file name to more than the original in
that case. (meaning: it may overwrite some original
letters to accomplish the command as desired).

2. The ? character can also be used effectively in
place of the wildcard * character.

I believe that there is a way to use scripting in
windows 2K/Xp to overcome the overwriting of letters
and it has set me thinking ..... should work on that
next :)
