You're in the same boat I was two years ago. I had an EOS 3 and I knew the
D60 would do nothing but frustrate me due to it's lack of focus speed and 4
fps. So, I held out until the price dropped on the 1D to $4k. Then I got
lucky and got a refurb from B&H for $3500. It's still alot of money but it
paid for itself in about a year and a half due to the lack of film costs.

I regret not doing it sooner but I couldn't afford to at the time.
