I've used both and kept only the 1.4. As far as I could tell, it's only disadvantages are bigger size and higher price. The 1.4 _is_ softer wide open, but that's only because it is 1.4 - stopped down to f/1.8 it is just as sharp as the 1.8 for all practical purposes and most impractical ones I once shoot some test slides and compared them with 10x loupe, and actually thought the 1.4 was minutely sharper, but so little it could've been caused by focusing error or even my imagination. In all other respects the 1.4 is better. In particular it has nicer bokeh, much better handling and build quality. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go for it. -- Tapani Tarvainen * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
