Dear Ercoupers: Though I am a regular reader of this tech discussion here is my first question. I have an Alon A2 which exhibits nose wheel shimmy between 50 and 40 mph during landing roll-out. However the shimmy never occurs at any speed during takeoff. On landing it occurs about 80% of the time. When it starts occurring I can pull back on the yoke which reduces the shake a bit but it is still significant enough to get your attention. If I push the yoke forward as I approach 40mph the shimmy is slightly reduced but not eliminated. The scissor assembly is solid and there are no obviously loose components in the nose gear. Although I do not hold out much hope, my first attempt this weekend to correct this problem will be to remove and balance the nose wheel. I am anxious to hear any and all suggestions about where I need to look to correct this problem. This last weekend I took the belly skin off my Ercoupe. Just in front and at the center of my rear spar, in an area that can only be scene with the belly skin off, I found a 1946 penny. Tim "Jason J. We inspected every single square inch inside the wings, fuselage, and walkway boxes using mirrors and tiny flashlights. Guess what was found inside one of the walkway boxes? A 1945 Denver minted penny! I wonder if it was placed there when first assembled, or if someone who had owned it prior had placed it there... for good luck? I'm thinking about putting it back in (secured of course) when it is reassembled. Hi All... We own a '46 Coupe with the Forniar duel nose fork and tire. Our NLG has the snubber cable. I recently measured the difference between having the cable on and having it off. Length of travel with the cable on was approx 7 inches as compared to approx 11 inches with it off. The most significant difference I noted from the inspection, was with the snubber cable on, the dampening action of the NLG piston was restricted. to about half of that compared to without having the cable on. Without having the snubber cable on, my largest concern was re-learning the flair height during landing so that I wouldn't hit the NLG first. I think we will progressively lengthen the snubber cable, for training purposes, up to the point where it won't be required. This way we can restore the full dampening action of the NLG and maintain the look Fred had designed into the Coupe. Any Thoughts?
