Hey Daniel: Wayne DelRossi provided a very detailed account of what/where to look on the out side. It is possible to change the inside rod end by removing the rod completely, (which is not easily accomplished. Let me know if you feel  the problem lies here.
    You can check the steering system for play with some assistance from another individual and by weighing down the tail (I would recommend blocking it just off the ground rather than using the tail tie down) There is a centering spring that is on the right side of the system and attaches to a bolt that has an adjustment through the firewall. I have seen this bolt loose, which could possibly cause shimmy. Or if the centering spring has broken/come loose.
    After you get the nose wheel off the ground, and the aircraft secured, you can wiggle the nose wheel and see where the play seems to be coming from. This is where you may need assistance if the play is inside the fuselage.
