There are alot of C coupes that are called D coupes but don't have the complete
conversion. Has the stainless steel sheet ben installed over the header tank
area?
My 415-C has everything like a D except for the stainless steel over the tank,
so it's still only a C. I have a sneaking suspicion that someone may have done
all the changes to my plane then inadvertently flown it at a 1400lb GW not
knowing that the conversion had not been completed. They probably even told
their friends that they had a D. Who knows?

"A friend of mine" is looking for nice Ercoupe since he's been having a hard
time keeping his medical. He's finding that the true "C" models are not within
his price range. He found a nice "C" that had been converted to a "D" model. We
understand that the Fed's will not permit a "D" conversion to be converted back
to a "C". But the "D" conversion that he's looking at still has the "C" data
plate, and is still registered as a "C" on it's Airworthiness Certificate. The
conversion was actually done in 1975. The only place that the conversion was
recorded was in the log books.

So the question is: If the original log books were lost, then recreated ...
and the "D" conversion entry was missed in recreating the new logs, would
anybody ever really know the difference?

I've got a strong suspicion that there are probably many "D" conversions that
were never recorded with the Feds, now flying around as "C"s. Please offer any
advice on the likelihood of my friend getting snagged at this.
  Thanks,
  Richard
