That's a pretty impressive video.  Maybe they can build the robotics for
the home user so the plug can find the charge port by itself... :-)
Seriously in the future this technology will be needed when EV use becomes
dominant.  If you spent any time around a busy gas station on a Thursday
evening before the price goes up (our gas prices are regulated to change
usually on a Friday) you would see why the time to swap vs time to charge
makes complete sense.  As mentioned, Battery packs could be equipped with a
small BMS to measure usage or abuse and pro-rate themselves.
Standardization will be key here and Musk has taken the steps toward that
direction with dispelling a lot of their patents. If automotive engineers
can standardize on the components to fill an ICE vehicle why can't it be
done for the EV?
