the pressure to always be productive like they had to be in Colonial times to keep their families healthy. I don't know if I agree with the idea, but it's an interesting one that I'm often thinking of and assessing in various knitting situations.
I totally agree with this. I've been knitting for 59 of my 64 years. I'm often in large-group facilities - professional sports arenas, concerts, seminars, etc... - and look around, astounded that this many ppl can sit 'like a bump on a log' and do nothing! I think to myself, "If 50 sweaters were started throughout this stadium/room/facility and everyone passed them on to the person next to them after knitting one row, we'd have 50 sweaters knit for charitable purposes at the end, with everyone having benefitted from the soothing, relaxing, stress-reducing repetitious actions of knitting."
