I think you'd find otherwise if you actually did timed benchmarks of your system versus Paul's system (500 MHz G4).
Sure, it will still take "forever," but there are different degrees of "forever."
Paul should get a new system regardless of the EPS export issue. 500 MHz G4 is far too slow to run Finale effectively in OS X.
