Yes, don't do this! Whatever your problem is, I would be *very*
surprised if it is hardware-related. (It is not impossible, the weak
point of the X45 are the bad cables, I had to fix some broken wires
after years of use. To test the hardware, ask a friend with Win or Linux
O/S to testcalibrate your stick).

I am using my X45 together with Simpad pedals for many years. First with
WinXP, since last year with OpenSuse 10.1/10.2 Linux. Worked out of the
box without any problem (only that I released the center spring with
small cable fixer).
With WinXP I had to calibrate the USB joystick once a year, with Linux I
have to do it *every* new session :-(.

It would be interesting to see the output of your js_demo. Just for fun
I plugged two different joysticks into my USB ports to get my X45 as
Joystick 1. (BTW: JS.0 not calibrated, JS.1 = X45 calibrated).
You also must have any "Joystick 0" if your X45 shows up as Joystick 1.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/FlightGear/bin> ./js_demo
Joystick test program.

Very interesting! When I started FlightGear with these 2 joysticks
connected *both* are plugged to the *same* axes. With Joystick.0 (CH
Flightstick) untouched my Joystick.1 (X45) worked pretty fine but if I
made some artificial noise with Joystick.0 I got out of control with the
aircraft as this interfered.
So you might have anything connected as Joystick.0 what is disturbing
your Joystick.1 ????
Just a thought - what makes me unsure is that js_demo works here fine
with two joysticks connected, both X and Y axis has values of -1 to +1
(after Linux calibration, as I mentioned every new session requiered :-/
). In your case js_demo shows uncalibrated values for these axes, so for
me it seems more a calibration problem (calibration value storage
problem???) of your O/S.

This all just as a feedback as I am very satisfied with my X45, I can't
count the hours it worked fine here the last years.
