Jason -- 99SEsp6 shouldn't have any problem opening read-only ddb's -- I do it all the 
time.

Is the file on a network drive?
If so, copy it to a local drive or your desktop and try opening it there.

Otherwise, in file mananger (sorry, explorer) right click on
the .ddb and select Properties, are the read-only or system flags set?

If it is, clear it.
