Hey Terry and all, This is an excellent point that the more you begin with the
easier it is to come up to speed, however you get alot of mileage from your
dollar dolling up an old Pismo. That said, buying a non operating unit may be
just frustration, wasted time and money. My problem is that I'm having way too
much fun making something out an old Sunday school (unmolested, out of date)
G3. Now I still belive the G3 Pismo is the biggest secret in MacLand, as I
drop another chunk of cash into a shoehorn and that giganic hard drive I found
on ebay. Very addicting...... Jim M.

on a separate note, try to get a Pismo with as many upgrades already in the
package as upgrading hard drives, RAM batteries and any defective parts will
ding you to the point that you will kick yourself for not buying a complete one
to start out with. So beware of the $50 fixer upper as that will cost you more
in the long run for parts upgrades. Here is an example of parts upgrade
prices, these are ebay prices on the low end

256 RAM card PC100 $15512 RAM card PC133 $25-$35Used good battery $35-40AC
adapter $15-20DVD-ROM drive $15-20Replacement LCD $20+Broken hinges $12+
20GB+ hard drive $15++

Thanks Bruce, Terry and Jim.

Those are great points for me, Terry, I'll be googling. :D

Jim, I'm glad to hear how much you like your Pismo. That helps to

know. This list is a fantastic resource. There's a lot more good

working life left in these G3's than the average person knows about -

and I'm glad I asked all these questions of the right people.

I think I'm set now with my questions. Just waiting to sell a few

things on ebay - then I'll go hunting seriously for my Pismo. Even if

the cash would be available for the G4, I think I'll stay with the

Pismo, the extra cash has other places it could go.

Thanks you all.
