Terry the further thoughts on costs was very helpful. Thanks for
taking the time to give me those details.

Alan, yes, that does also help. Granted, you have me back to
considering all three machines again, but at least I feel a little
less confused. I think thats a good thing.

While the G4 may be a good value, I can't escape the reality that the
12" G4 seems to have final sale values of about $275-$300 -- while it
looks like I might get a working G3 with adequate power for around
$125-160 or so. (I don't think I'd ever go the route of putting in
those g4 upgrades unless it was free!) That difference in price
between the g3 and g3 is critical at the moment for me, although it
might sound like pocket change to others. I don't dispute the fact
that a G4 would be very nice to have though.

Whichever powerbook I can lay my hands is intended to allow me to work
enough so that cash flow can begin again. I have issues being able to
work in my home - and hefting my unwieldy eMac out the door isn't an
option. As the cash flow improves, I see another Powerbook in the
near future - probably the g4 model. One as backup in case of disaster
- one as main system. Then I can get rid of my unwieldy desktop moose
(eMac 1.25gz).

This is all very useful info. I appreciate all the discussion.
