She lives!
Took everything apart, put everything back together (put a little
physical pressure on the CPU to see if it was unseated), tightening
everything snugly in the process, and behold—no issues. I'm not sure
how long it will last like this, but to know that it does still work
is reassuring. If it does need repaired, I think I'll go ahead if the
problems re-emerge. Maybe it was just some loose connections… I'll
keep watching it.
I had already given my sister the 256 MB RAM card from my top slot
and installed 10.1 on it, so I'm only running at 256 MB of RAM (took
the bottom RAM and moved it up to the top), but everything seems to be
working fine. I feel much better now. I've been a little depressed
over the downtime period (no, I'm not a tech addict—I've got plenty of
other computers to work with, but I still get down in the dumps when
my laptops kick out). I've got the AirPort card back (10.1 doesn't
exactly scream web-surfing power, and my sister doesn't care about the
internet as much as she does AppleWorks). I'm hoping this thing holds
out to be a nice gift for my parents. Between my iBook and my Pismo,
I've got a pair of dependable G3s whose problems always turn out to be
simpler to fix than they appear (I spent almost $200 on parts for the
iBook before I came to the realization that the battery had just died—
the purchase of a new battery is pending). Nonetheless, my sights are
set on a MacBook White or an iPad (preferably the latter).

Thanks,
FFF
