I'm sure that I will get a lot of flak for saying this, but the newer
versions of Norton are not as bad as some of the folks on this list seem to
think. I'll admit that Symantec seems to have this propensity for being
behind the times in support for new OS versions, but the last version of
Utilities will not screw up your computer even if you're using OS X. For
those listmembers that already own Norton, there is no reason not to use it
so long as Symantec supports the OS you are running with your version of
Norton.

Personally, I've never had Norton screw up a computer, and I've used it not
only on my own systems, but also on hundreds of client systems ranging from
an LC to a G4 running OS 7.x-10.x. Never a single problem with it's
performance so long as I paid attention to known issues, and if it didn't
fix the problem then it wasn't going to be fixed by Techtool either.

Norton Diskwarrior and Techtool all provide valuable tools with some
overlapping abilities. Nothing recovers a hard drive from apparent failure
like Diskwarrior, but it really doesn't touch file structures (only the
directory structures). Both Norton and Techtool are very useful for
repairing file structures. CanOpener for retrieving information from an
unrepairable file.
