hi,
as a follow on from the smb copy problems, i've discovered something worrying...
from looking in one of the folders i have copied across, theres a matching amount of hidden files now showing on the pc (so if i copied a directory of 100 files to the pc there are an additional 100 hidden files).
they are named as follows:
file name that was copied: jakes_excel_sheet.xls additional hidden file: ._jakes_excel_sheet.xls
they range in size from 1kb and seem to be proportional to the original file.
Those are the OSX equivalent of the resource forks of OS 9 files. They can be deleted in most cases, since MS office data files don't store anything in the resource fork.
.DS_Store is roughly the same as the old invisible desktop file and ._.trashes is, well, the trash...
All can be deleted.
