My Canon Ixus has had horribly rough treatment over the two years I've 
had it - including getting rained on and being dropped on concrete - 
but with absolutely no ill effects. I didn't and don't consider an 
extended warranty worthwhile.

here in England there is consumer legislation restricting the sales of 
these warranties for all the reasons stated by other purchasers.
