I wish someone could help with the 'disconnecting' of my computer since I switched to OSX.Kim:
It is happening to my daughters computer too.
We are about to go back to OS9 because this is way to time consuming to sit for hours waiting for the stupid thing to disconnect, or restart to make it stop disconnecting.
I think you need to explain more before anyone can help you.
What do you mean by 'disconnecting'? Frozen cursor? Beach ball spinning forever?
Which version of OSX are you & daughter running? Which machines do you have? How much memory do they have.
What peripherals are attached? Have you upgraded your machines lately? If yes what? etc. etc.
Nah, you don't want to go back to OS9 - especially when you can run classic.
JIm
Thank you Jim, for your help.
This is what will happen:
We will be using the internet... either the mail or browser will stop responding and then the modem in the menu bar starts saying it is disconnecting. That disconnecting can continue well over an hour. Sometimes it is actually disconnected, sometimes not.
Nothing is frozen on the computer. No beach ball.
Memory 256 I have an ibook 500MHz G3 running OS 10.2.8 I use Mail, Safari, Internet Explorer
My daughter has an imac 333 running OS 10.2.3 She uses Entourage, Safari, Internet Explorer
I upgraded from the 10.2.3 to the 10.2.8 in hopes this disconnecting madness would stop.
But, with my first connection using 10.2.8, I was disconnected.
This happens to us... at least 10-20 times a day.
No peripherals are attached. When we need to use something, we will plug it in, but even those drivers have only recently been installed and this disconnecting problem has been going from the very first day of installing OSX.
We did not have this problem with OS9.
We do have a bad internet server(dial up modem), which would disconnect us when they had big problems(maybe once a week or once a month), but my *other* daughter who is still using OS9 on her ibook, refuses to upgrade to OSX from seeing our problems. She never gets disconnected, and we are in the same house.
If you have any clue, we would be forever grateful. Thanks Kim
