Hmmm, works with card, doesn't work without, guru sez "get a
hub!"....:-) I think the "Get a hub!" crew is correct.

FW hubs are more expensive but readily available. USB hubs are
everywhere. You'll want powered hubs for sure.

One hint: Get a Powersquid power strip to deal with the proliferation
of power bricks, or do what I did.

Our office is overrun with spare three-prong power cords for
computers. They seem to multiply in every IT shop I've ever seen, you
can probably get a handful of them really cheap or for free if you ask
around.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a three-prong receptacle like
this:

<http://tinyurl.com/c5685l>, shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks
at a local electrical supply store or hardware store. Even Wallyworld
carries 'em.

Cut the computer cord down to about 4-6" from the male end, connect
the above to the cut end and voila' you have a one arm of a
'Powersquid'.

Make six of 'em and you can connect six bulky power bricks to a
regular $3.99 powerstrip.

Pay a little more for a couple of male connectors, and you can make 3
or 4 of 'em from one free cord.
