Hi Dark,
At this point I haven't figured out what to sell the Genesis Engine for,
but I don't expect it to be anywhere near the price of the GMA Engine.
Understand I am writing this engine for two primary reasons, and I think
if priced right this could help the accessible market out in a large way.
First, as you know i have written two games the old fassion way, by
hand, and each game took over a years time to produce. I really don't
want to spend years of my time putting out one game here and there,
because they take too long to produce. The answer is to have a
prototyping tool, Genesis 3D, which has all the necessary code in place
for a high-quality 3D action game. All I need do is draw the levels, set
properties on things in that level, drop the files in with the pre-built
game.exe file and I have a new game.
Second, I have been hanging around the blind gaming comunity, reading
the mag, interacting on lists, but I have always been disappointed in
the accessible games available to us as blind gamers. Sure there are
some good games like Sarah, SOD, Tank Commander, that stand out and are
worth the cash. However, there are far too many just point and shoot or
Bop It type games which I have little to no interest in. One reason for
this is most accessible game developers are self-taught programmers,
have little to no formal training, and aren't really skilled programmers
yet. Those that do have the skills are too busy with day to day life to
really do something revolutionary or visionary.
By taking the task upon myself to design a fully accessible 3D game
engine and designer it makes making the games I like to play easy for
even a non-programmer who wants to make games. If they can operate
menus, buttons, etc and with a good game idea they should be able to use
the Genesis wizards to create a completely new game in a very short
amount of time.
