JD,
Go ahead and learn in a 150/152/172. Learning what the rudder's for is
valuable experience. It's
important to learn slips and wing-low crosswind landings and coordinated
turns(especially low and slow
ones). The systems in a coupe are dirt simple (even more so than a
150/152) and can be learned quickly
once you get your checkride out of the way. The coupe is probably not a
good trainer because it is too
forgiving. When you get to the point of actually buying a coupe, get some
dual instruction from a
coupe-savvy instructor or owner. They're not without their own vices and
can bite you just as hard as
any other plane. The thing I've found to be most dangerous about mine is
letting it get too slow on
short final. Anything under about 70 MPH and you develop a high sink rate
that can be hard to arrest
quickly. Just my thoughts
