Hello Kurt,

as long as we're talking about animals as an ordinary cargo,
the factors might even out -- ten elephants, a hundred cows,
a thousand sheep, or ten thousand rabbits could all make a
full load for a livestock transport. Weight, volume, life
support could be roughly the same. (The internal layout is
different, of course.)

>From what I know about real-world trucks and ships, the
animals will be crammed in so tight that ventilation is
required. That implies sufficient life support in a starship,
even for a day or two.

Pets or zoo and circus animals would be a different case.
They need enough room so they won't get stir-crazy, and it
might be possible to swap their habitats pound-for-pound
against human quarters, two labrador retrievers in the room
for one human, for example.

Regards,
Onno
