Yes, .50 BMG may go through concrete, even through steel - or it may not go
through. With something massive (or fluid) between you and your target, any
shot gets more and more unpredictable, no matter which calibre you are using
(of course, for a 120 mm Tank grenade, it does not matter: you blast the whole
wall away, and *that* will kill the man behind …)

"One hit, one kill“ is more to real life. 9 out 10 using a .50 Barrett at first
time will not hit a car within 50 m range with it, and 8 of them need to see
the dentist’s after. For a .800 Holland & Holland, the „teeth toll“ is still
significant even for experienced shooters, but an occasional hit will even take
out an Elephant bull (what the rifle is originally built for).

When it comes to „trained“ shooters, even then the results gets really bad at
distances above 300 m, with smaller calibers also. Most snipers I talked to in
the past confessed that in combat the shot/hit ratio on longer distances go
down to 3 to 1, 5 to 1 or even worse (on human sized targets, of course). Only
US snipers do hit with each round …

There are 101 possible reasons for a miss, and several are not under the
control of the shooter, but distance and calibre do increase some them.

That still does not disprove your original argument, but there is a difference
between effectivity and efficiency when it comes to guns and there calibers
that should always be kept in mind.

Of course it has a meaning when a black cat crosses your way from left to right

It means, that the cat, coming from your left, wants to go somewhere right from
