Beam does need a battery and most laser or like are limited. There is some
that might do more than pretty laser light. Also one shot means a bit of
time or can be to cut thru things, or your talking some sort of particle or
like, which means you need to replace the active element in the particle
beam weapon? Bullets are nice in they pack of punch, and can also carry a
small explosive or like. Also they can penetrate things, as seen by a 50
cal/12.7mm rifle going through a concrete bunker and taking out the man
behind the walls before he could set off an IED or like device..
But thats why I am amazed they are using small caliber rapid fire weapons in
Star ship Trooper, when the Trooper named Trigger is using a 50 call or like
single shot, bolt action sniper rifle..
Yes, its not fun in an space environment when you punch a hole thru the
walles/windows of a space station or like, but .. One shot, one kill.
