Guys guys.

Let's take a deep breath.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound pissed off. I just meant to report my experience, and since I work on a ton of computers, I get a lot of experience. I would argue that my experience with three to six computers per day probably outweighs the "I owned one of X and it was great/horrible" argument. That's why I recommended Acer. Now if Apple is giving out a new computer whenever you have a problem with an old one, then I guess you'd be an idiot not to buy an Apple. But I don't think that's the case, so I don't recommend Apple.

Guess what laptop we went with again? A brand new MacBook. Same price as we paid 5 years ago 999. And better features. I fully expect this laptop to last another 5 years.

Ok, so I have two Acer laptops in my house that are six and five years old. The five year old one is still in daily use. I have seen a ton of Windows PCs that were in use eight, nine or ten years after purchase. I don't think you meant to say that only Apples will last five years, but your comment sounds like it.

The last laptop I owned was an acer. It lasted exactly 366 days. 1 day out of warranty when the motherboard power circuitry blew. Cost of replacing the main board was equivalent to buying a new laptop.

Two things: 1)Was it a Travelmate or an Aspire? The Aspires suck, as do all home-grade PCs. So I don't recommend those. 2)I have had Acer repair PCs that were just out of warranty several times, so frankly, they should have repaired yours. I'm going to bet you didn't buy from an Acer dealer, or if you did, they were incompetent.

I find it frustrating that since you can buy a cheap piece of shit windows PC for a quarter the price of an Apple, but since that PC won't last as long as the more expensive Apple, won't be as nice to use, and the service will be worse then people say "PCs suck, Apples rock." I have yet to see an Apple computer that blows away a similarly priced Windows PC purchased from a reputable dealer.

(Guess I'm sounding pissed off again, huh?) :)
