Nothing that I have said can be considered a "flame" but rather facts based
on experience. There is valid reason for concern from many individuals
regarding this. Especially those of us that have invested years of support
along with all of the $$ and time for hosting, upgrading, developing, etc...
All too often, an issue popped up and there was no response from Valve.
Just silence. From what I understand, silence is an automatic acceptance
(I'm sure some of our resident lawyers can confirm this). As a developer,
it concerns me that if the game development company is unwilling to work
with their supporters that help make their game better, then why invest
further into it? If what is true of the accounts that happened with PB are
true (with no true monetary compensation as an issue), then the same goes
for all other development projects. That includes halfd, hlstats, AdminMOD,
and many, many other MODs (not directly supported by Valve).
It is true that there are other game development companies that are more
open to working directly with some of us developers based purely on our
experience and competance to improve their game. Unfortunately, most of us
don't have time to devote to multiple gaming companies.
So, there really isn't any panic at the moment, just a lot of concern for
the future and whether we will hear anything from Valve on this. =\
