I have that recording and although it's a cleaner recording (and you can tell if the playing is cleaner or not), I don't agree that the interpretation is better. Then again, I prefer Bernstein with anything Mahler - simply because he's not afraid to get more blood out of the piece (and the players). I find most conductors are too conservative with Mahler because he was so specific in his scores - but I'm pretty sure Mahler would have conducted his own stuff beyond what he wrote in his scores. -William In a message dated 3/15/2010 9:04:50 P.M. The recording used to be available on vinyl (remember that stuff?) as a boxed set through London/Decca [ffrr: full frequency range recording] #CSA-2228. Truly spectacular playing!
