- IBus 1.5 introduces Japanese (and other languages) keyboard as an engine
The engine shortcut key does not switch other layout engines and currently
we're thinking the IMEs switching key and IME state key is different in
gnome-shell upstream likes Windows.
- IBus 1.5 has dropped features to show current mode of an active engine
at a glance
gnome-shell + ibus overrides the IME icon with the input mode if the engine
has the mode:

I have been discussing about it for several years in ibus upstream but I
think your issue is different from the original issue to explain the
discussions. It may be good to open a new issue.
Windows 7 (Ja) uses Ctrl (Alt?) + Shift to switches IMEs and supports to
assign a unique key for each IME although it does not allow keys without
modifiers.
