You seem to need tex- not in it's raw form - but with  a suitable macro
package like LaTeX2e.If you want a formal report format- use the templates
from the IEEE.org website. go to www.tug.org for more goodies like lyx etc.
If you want a Wordstar clone- Stick with joe
