Because many machines are covered under Applecare. It is a 3 year coverage
policy. Some of the machines that are still under the 3 year umbrella are
not capable of running OS X. But all newer OS X capable machines are
completely capable of running OS 9. That's why. Your FP iMac shipped with
OS 9. Why are you complaining again? ;-)
