The updater did not work. It tells me that the "modem was not found. Check that the modem is properly installed"

It is possible that the modem is dead. Here in Florida we see a LOT of that, where a power surge fries the modem (and sometimes the whole computer, but usually just the modem) via the phone cord.


See if you can get your hands on an "Apple Hardware Test" CD (which should have come with one or both of those iMacs) and run that.
