Naming a restaurant McSushi, as referenced in another post, does seem an obvious attempt to associate the restaurant with McDonald's in consumers' minds, possibly even to fool consumers into thinking McDonald's has opened a chain of sushi places.

Puhlease, that's absurd. If I see "McSushi" I don't think McDonald's any more than Dairy Queen makes me think of Burger King

The issue here is that Apple Computer makes agreements with Apple Records, then blatantly breaks the agreements a few years down the line:

Be careful what you say. You do NOT know what the agreement says. You do not have access to it. For all you know the agreement specifically disallows Apple using the Apple name on any music products. Which guess what, iTunes Music Store does not do.

Obviously Apple has lawyers. Don't pretend to know more about the legalese of the contract then the lawyers who actually have access to it.

* That case was settled, with the new provision that Apple Computer never get into the business of selling or marketing music. A few years later, Apple began selling and marketing music.

You do not know what the provision was or what the wording is. At best you are relying either on the statements of informed journalist who are GUESSING, or someone within Apple Corps who is violating the confidentiality agreement and leaking their slant on the agreement.

It's pretty obvious Apple was aware they were breaking the first agreement, as they basically baited Apple Records with the "so sue me" thing. They must have been well aware this suit was coming, too. It doesn't help that Jobs, a huge fan of the Beatles, has admitted he named his computer company after their record label.

Really? Where? I've heard that as an anecdote, but never have I seen an actual quote. The story I've heard was that the Steve's couldn't come up with a name and Steve was eating an Apple and said, "If we can't think of anything, let's call it 'Apple.'"
