Why in the world would you say such a completely ridiculous thing?? Not only will the iMac NOT overheat if left on, it would put ITSELF to sleep automatically after a period of no use.


It is important that this gets solved.

Why not just do a clean install and see if the problem goes away? If it doesn't, it's likely to be a hardware problem (bad RAM, I'd suspect).
