Hey guys,
Well, we've been plagued with the POP3D hangups ever since moving to the
new W2K machine, and we've been working with Ipswitch, who can't seem to
find the problem, and MS, which when the machine hangs, we do a mem dump and
send them the file, here's what they had to say, I wanted the list's more
senior members responses.
According to MS, an orphaned Critical Section, or Critsec, that the
thread using the critsec exited without releasing the critsec, and thus the
following processes could not procede and cause the hang. They say they've
seen this with 3rd party .dll'sloading under spoolsv.exe process and exiting
while still owning a critsec.
Their suggestions:
1: install the Appverifier tool, to winXP and test the POP3D32.EXE
service for a lock test. This tool only runs on XP. The test's purpose is to
test the critsecs.
2: upgrade or downgrade the following:
d:\imail\ODBCUSER.dll (aug 2002)
d:\imail\mailbox.dll (aug 2002)
d:\imail\Imailsec.dll (aug 2002)
Any ideas guys?
Paul
