My client did not even know that the 3rd party used the email address.
However, they know the 3rd party. (political campaign of some sort the owner of the company is supporting).
My problem with this is that I can have your mail server blacklisted without you even knowing and me not even being a client of yours.

O.k.,
It sounds like you just didn't explain it very well initially. The spammer
does not have any affiliation with you, the spam itself doesn't point to a
domain that you are hosting, etc...Right?

blacklistedI can do the same thing to you too actually.
I can register a domain, use you as the domain admin.
Then spam from a different network and your mail server will bestoppinguntil you get your name off the record.
You had nothing to do with the spamming and you have no control inbutthe spamming but even worse you don't control any aspect of this. You can only demand that the registrar removes you from the record and that will take days to get done for sure.
Does not sound reasonable to me and I surprise it does to you.
H.
