Dick I think alot of your notions are derived from the Ruby community
circa 2004. I'll admit the everyone one was over the top on Ruby then
and for bit after but things are not that way anymore. The community
has 'grown up' in many ways... and leaders in it help to ensure it
keeps growing up (See the absolutely fantastic RailsConf presentation
by "What killed smalltalk could kill Ruby Too" talk by Uncle Bob :
http://railsconf.blip.tv/file/2089545/).

Earlier someone made reference to Zed Shaw's rant posts as an example.
You realize he deleted them because things have changed, he is doing
Ruby work these days.

I've spent alot of time doing Ruby and no Java and I don't dismiss
Java in the least. I did choose ROR because I felt overwhelmed with
the many Java web frameworks, but I wasn't dismissive of them. I've
listen to every single Java Possee episode (even the 2 episodes prior
to becoming Java Possee) even though I don't code in Java. Java was
there everyday that I did my ROR programming though, because my IDE of
choice was Netbeans.

What irks me is to hear you talk down Ruby on the one hand and be
respectful of Python on the other simply because you prefer Python.
Can't you just be respectful of both regardless? I really think you
have this outdated vision of the Ruby community from years ago and it
colors all of your comments.

Rails recent release added more support for working with Legacy
Databases. Everyone recognizes that few get to work with greenfield
apps in established companies but is it any fairer to say Java is best
for Legacy Apps and ROR is better for greenfield? No.

The way you dismiss Ruby at times is much like how Leo Leporte
dismisses Java ("Oh Java is slow"), you don't like hearing that and
anymore then people who've worked in Ruby like hearing you be so
dismissive of Ruby/Rails.
