Playing the guitar is indeed relaxing - except if you're not very good and
then try to practise after listening to Richard Thompson.
Try listening to some Classical Indian music, it has a very relaxing effect
because, broadly speaking, it doesn't "go anywhere" in the same way that most
Western music does. It has a stillness that can be very calming.
Or what about listening to the sea? If you can't get to the real thing, a
good recording isn't a bad substitute - which gives me yet another chance to
mention Pooka's album Spinning, which has a wonderful 15 minute section of
the waves crashing against the shore - you can probably get whole CDs of
stuff like that, just put one on, lower the lights, light a candle and a joss
stick - and kick back!
