Jim, We have a saying in our profession....make a patient happy and they will = tell a friend. Make a patient mad, and they tell 100 friends.
Perhaps it is favorable demographics, perhaps it is our attitude; but = we really do have very people who are "PITA". Your business is no different than mine. You have to deliver a service = that people want, in a way that they come back and refer their friends = and relatives. People and markets change. Internet sales are here. They aren't going = away. =20 Let me give you an actual example. I have bought 4 systems over the internet. I installed 2 of them and we = are thrilled with all the installs. I am in the process of installing phones for two 76,000 sqft medical = office buildings , serving about 80 doctors and over 200 staff. We are = using T1's , Voice Mail, DID, fiber link to the adjacent hospital's = phone system , the works. Guess who got that contract ?=20 The guy who performed my last install on an Internet bought unit. He charged me full rates, it wasn't a charity or loss leader service. = But he would come, he did a great job, and he did all the needed = instruction. Yes, we did bid out the new offices phones. But the winning bidder had 2 = tremendous advantages over the others.=20 First, he already had a working relationship with us, and took the time = to ask to find out exactly what we needed and nothing more. Thus his = proposal didn't include any extra crap that we didn't want or need. And = he was able to bid his labor a little lower because we let him redesign = some of the specs on the blueprints. We wouldn't have had the confidence = in any other contractor to allow them to do that. Secondly, he wasn't the lowest price. But he provided a better value, = more bang for the buck and was able to convince us of that. And his = redesigns saved us some construction money by eliminating some conduits = and unnecessary drops in walls that he pointed out to us. This guy has saved us bucks. Would we recommend him ? We already have, = and he is now the busiest shop in town. I suggest you go ahead and read "The Myth of Excellence". It's at your = local bookstore, waiting for you. See where you fit in. You've adapted = from TV repair to phones so you understand adaptation. It never = stops....in fact the pace quickens as we get older, and it gets harder = to adapt.=20 Don't let the market move away from you. Let us hear back from you in 5 = years, about how you are doing.=20 I know I'll still be here. Good luck, Reddy Biggs PS: We move in January 15.
